IN THE LOOP | OOTD by EUREKA CALHOUN

October is here and we are in the last quarter of 2017......WOW time is flying!  Which means we’re about to move into the biggest shopping season of the year.  For some this is music to their ears but if you have been following my minimalist journey then you already know I made the choice to not be affected by oncoming influx of persuasive holiday advertisements.  For both lovers and haters of shopping, the common problem is we tend to spend rather than invest.  Luckily, I have been set free from the “mindset “more is better which causes us to purchase items we don’t need or eventually never wear.

Today’s OOTD is about one of my beloved dresses revisited, the ASOS Loop dress to be specific.  When I think about this go-to party dress purchased over 6 yrs. ago, my first thought was praise God it still fits like a glove, thanks to my new healthy lifestyle.  Secondly,  when you think about a dress covered in fabric loops some might assume it will create unwanted volume.  Luckily,  the fashion God’s were in my favor because this dress is both forgiving and flattering.  I love how it constantly tricks the eye and it allows a little wiggle room if you have gained a few pounds.

The beauty about this dress is it looks great anytime of the year and there’s something about the vibrant cobalt blue color that brings a dose of interest.  It has a natural elegance to be worn for a special event or a night out.  In the past,  I usually create a monochromatic look but I decided to switch up the outfit combination with the addition of hot pink Dolce Vita sandals and newly purchased (on sale) Nordstrom Rack earrings. The geometric pattern earrings and magenta colored sandals simply elevates the entire look.  Although the dress is not “interview ready”, it's definitely something anyone can wear and have a little fun paired with a plethora of different accessory combinations.

IT'S A VIBE | OOTD by EUREKA CALHOUN

Last year I came to the realization that I have lived thirty-seven years without knowing what it really means to love and take care of myself. Embodying an authentic vibe in this noisy confusion life will lead you to believe taking care of yourself is a problem. Don’t get me wrong, life is good, I work hard, and played harder.  Then one day, I woke up and realized I take good care of myself—on the outside. Along the way I managed to forget how to take care of my inner world. When I made the decision to walk and live in the space of this new vibe, something magical happened. By allowing myself to acknowledge that changes, challenges, and hardships are here to deepen me and to remind me I do get a second chance.

Taking care of you is not as easy as it looks because it takes a lot of dedication and continuous effort every single day.  When I made the decision to place a higher value on my time, the precious gift to wake up each day complete in my pursuit of wholeness, surprisingly, my days started to become more inviting again. Whether it’s going to the gym, feeding my body healthy fuel, and or taking time to relax and meditate at the end of the day, I realized I’m doing a disservice by not by connecting to who I am—to nurture myself from the inside out.  Authenticity is underrated and there's no dollar amount that can be place on a vibe that ultimately results in inner peace. We have the right and responsibility to live consciously.  So why cheat yourself or the universe of radiating good vibes into the sometimes unforgiving world.  Essentially, when we stop properly taking care of ourselves, it can cause us to get out of balance and lose our power on how to take care of others.

Thank you for joining me on this ride of self-reflection.  When I started blogging again, I promised myself to stay true and honor who I AM at the present moment. Blogging is an outlet for me and it encompasses more than an "OOTD" ! It's more so about self discovery with a heavy dose of style sprinkled in. My hashtag on social media is #MORETHANSTYLE and I have decided going forward I will not let anything or anyone dictate what I present to the world because what I have to offer is MORE THAN STYLE.  It's an infectious vibe when we honor what our spirit is telling us because it will ignite the path to living a life fulfilled.

Until next time with love,

A TOUCH OF VELVET | OOTD by EUREKA CALHOUN

Happy Friday!  We made it through another week!!  Styling your wardrobe in Oklahoma City during the winter is nothing but a game of roulette.  I sometimes miss the good ole days when the weather was consistent with the time of year because it made life a little simpler. Here in OKC the weather is consistently unpredictable, and forces me to leave behind my style logic.  So instead of grabbing my warmest trench coat and sweater combo I’m forced to think about the possibility of the weather changing from 30 degrees to 80 by the afternoon.....That’s my life right now!!!  Fall and winter is my favorite season and I haven’t scratched the surface of displaying some of my favorite go-to pieces because of the warmer temperatures.  But, I decided to throw away the weather man's predictions and style my outfit based on the season. Go me!!!

Velvet is one of my favorite materials this season, for obvious reasons.  It is a fall/winter style must have. From boots, tops, and dresses this 90's trend is back and hitting the mark. With my jammed packed schedule, I rely on tried-and-true pieces that will not have me stressed out.  My blue velvet Report booties were the perfect choice for the day!  I picked up this colorful faux fur vest and beanie hat during one of my “ONLY PURCHASE ON SALE”  shopping excursions at Dillard's and Nordstrom Rack.  The vest is soft and super comfortable, but at the same time feminine with a hint of nostalgia. My stable leather pants and velvet booties are always the perfect statement when I want to look chic with minimum effort.  Then I decided to reach back to quintessential Eureka and pile on all the accessories.  I paired the look with my favorite fingerless motorcycle leather gloves and Badgley Mischka bag with rabbit tail in tow. To maximize the look, I also added my favorite Prada sunnies and beloved "Art" belt!
